This time we'll do something we haven't done before in our Games.

We won't paint Venice the way it looks in a photograph. We'll create our own city made of a face, architecture, canals, gondolas, light, and almost abstract painterly fragments.

"Dreams of Venice" an experiment on the border of realism, surrealism, and contemporary painting.

The face will dissolve into the architecture, palaces become part of the portrait, real forms coexist with free patches and textures. And the familiar space of Venice will turn into a fantasy that never existed.

And we'll experiment not only with the subject.

Oil, acrylic, texture paste, and gold all in one piece.

We won't just paint Venice.
We'll invent it.

What the course gives you

The main goal of this Game is not to learn to copy a complex image, but to understand how to create similar works yourself.

We will explore how to combine portraiture, architecture, landscape, and abstract painting in a single composition, change the scale of objects, break conventional perspective, and still keep the painting cohesive.

We will also focus on materials. We will create a base in acrylic, add physical texture with texture paste, incorporate gold into the painting, and bring everything together with oils using transparent layers, thick brushstrokes, and freely painted passages.

We will learn to place precisely painted details alongside almost abstract areas, so the painting remains a vibrant contemporary work of art.

Most importantly the original work will be just a starting point. You will be able to change the architecture, face, color, amount of texture and gold, add your own details, and gradually build your own Venice.

By the end of the Game, you will have both a large finished work and experience you can apply to your own paintings: instead of looking for a ready-made subject you will invent your own.

Back in 1996 my parents took me to a children's art school. That was how it was done - children were sent to learn to draw. But unlike my classmates at the "art school", even then I had made up my mind that painting would be my profession.

After school I went to a college of culture, where I qualified as a "Master Artist". It is the place where they taught me not only to paint, but to cross-stitch, to knot macramé, to model and to carve... In short, everything you can possibly imagine in the crafts was passed on to me there by experienced teachers.
