We invite you to a two-day oil painting marathon devoted to one of the best known female images in the history of art — Ophelia. This time we look at the famous subject anew. Our heroine does not float down the river among living flowers as in Millais's canvas. She lives in the modern world, surrounded by artificial beauty, sunk in an endless stream of information and cut off from reality. Here the classical image of Ophelia becomes a metaphor for the person of the twenty-first century — someone who may drown not in water but in digital space. In two days we make an emotional, timely work in which a classical story finds a new voice.

What the course gives you
In the marathon we will create a striking contemporary composition in oils, learn to work with reflections in water, the transparency of fabrics, complex skin tones and expressive light effects. We will pay special attention to rendering the volume of white objects, working with highlights on water and the glossy surfaces of inflatable flowers.
