Ordinary corn cobs — and yet subjects like these teach you to see painting best. Nothing complicated, everything essential.
Ordinary cobs of corn, you would think. Yet subjects like these teach you to see painting best of all. There is no complicated architecture here, no crowd of objects — only light, color, texture and composition, which turn a simple still life into an expressive picture. In this new Theorium we do not merely paint the piece: we go through every stage of making it.

For paints we will need my classic set of colors.
I work with French PEBEO paint. You can take paint from other makers, but the shades may differ.
Below is the list of paints and their PEBEO numbers
The only color from the Ladoga/Master Class range - Leningrad raw umber.
The size I will paint on: 50x60, 60x70
In the lessons I paint on linen canvases. The size is yours to choose. It is worth going by the ratio of the sides.
If the reference is elongated, the difference between the sides should be 20 cm or more (for example 40x60 / 50x70).
Classic rectangular formats have a 10 cm difference (40x50 / 50x60)
Squares or circles you also take from the reference.
I do not mind if you move away from the given canvas proportions, for example, if the reference is elongated and you decide to take a square canvas.
That is always an interesting creative task.
I paint with pure odorless pinene. If you are used to painting with oil or a three-part medium, that is up to you, but I recommend taking a closer look at my way of building a painting.
I use flat-oval synthetics. From the smallest to the medium sizes. A wide flat brush you can take if you wish. I will not lean on those. Bristle will not be the main brush either.
While the course is being made, other tools may appear; I will talk about them in the lesson, but they will not be essential.
I always recommend having 2-4 palette knives of different shapes.
